OCFD Junior Firefighter Camp

Teaching the firefighters of tomorrow today

In 2010 we started one of the most successful summer camp programs in Ocean City, the OCFD Junior Firefighter Camp. The four day camp is held in July. The "cadets" report daily from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. The fire academy culminates with a graduation ceremony and pizza party for our "cadets" and their families.

Children ranging in age from 9-12 are put through the paces of fire academy/recruit life. Each cadet receives a uniform consisting of a baseball cap, t-shirt, rope belt (for knot tying skills), water bottle, and cinch-bag which they are expected to wear/bring every day. The day begins with physical training and then moves on to learning all aspects of our profession from EMS to fire supression. They also meet members of the Ocean City Police and Communications Departments and learn about the entire chain of emergency services the city provides.

How can my child participate?

Our summer camp is run in conjunction with the Ocean City Recreation Department. Enrollment opens on May 1st every year, and the class fills quickly. We have a max enrollment of 30 cadets per year. There is a wait list for those unable to register.
